IT CAME as no surprise to me to read in the Star (dated September 5) that after the town centre, West Park had the highest number of fly-tipping incidents and other incidents involving the illegal dumping of various forms of rubbish.

I have lived in West Park for more than 30 years and it used to be a very pleasant respectable area to live, where most people were owner occupiers and where people took a pride in their properties and in the area in general.

Unfortunately the area, over a period of years, has become blighted by the appearance of more and more rented properties where landlords are only interested in how much money their properties are making and have no regard as to how tenants take no interest or responsibility in how these properties are kept outwardly.

Also many of these tenants either have no knowledge or regard for the rules concerning the collection of rubbish.

The majority of problems, I am sorry to say, come from rented properties.

These include leaving wheelie bins on the highway instead of securing them on a property or not bothering to put overflowing bins out for collection for many weeks and also dumping kind of bulky rubbish on roads or alleyways.

It is very disheartening when one tries to live a decent life and desires a pleasant area to live in and instead you are forced to live among the filth and rubbish that other people care not to notice, or are quite content to live among it all.

Disheartened,
West Park
