I WAS speechless to read in the St Helens Star of March 22, that another ice cream and dessert parlour was to open on the ground floor of the former Tyrers building.

Who in their wisdom can possibly believe that this will be an asset to our town centre?

There is already Kaspa’s just fifty yards down the same road, selling exactly the same kind of foods.

The town centre already has more McDonalds, Costa Coffees and other fast food outlets.

As a result the town has a large proportion of residents with obvious obesity problems and this can only be exacerbated by the provision of further unsuitable eating places.

What the town really requires is a venue similar to what was provided in the Tyrers restaurant, where good quality, healthy food was available in pleasant, decent surroundings.
