NEW Street brushed off the disappointment of last week’s Guardian Cup Final to show their true grit and determination to lift the Jubilee Cup in fine style.

In a tightly fought game New Street created the better chances from the start to beat Halton Borough 3-2.

They took the lead after 13 minutes through Andrew Simms.

However, Halton’s Jonathon Harrison levelled the scores.

New Street found themselves in front when Andrew Simms headed in for his second with 32 minutes gone and they were starting to dominate.

Martin Dearden who had posed a threat all game put in a good cross for Jamie Cardwell to throw himself at the ball and nod home after 36 minutes.

The second half started better for Halton and they took control of the game and went close on a couple of occasions.

Eventually Halton got the break with seven minutes remaining pulled one back through Adam Cawley to bring the score to 2-3. With time running out Halton threw all they had at the New Street defence forcing several corners but stern defending prevented them from equalising. Again it was New Street who broke away and some good footwork from Martin Dearden saw him force Mark Southern to make a fine save.

With only a minute left on the clock Halton pushed everyone forwarded but could not grab the equaliser and force extra time. Ryan Thompson lift the Cup for New Street.

Once again both teams along with the officials Graham Marsh, Paul Stevenson, Tomasz Kalkucki and Joe Hitchmough provided excellent entertainment.
