ST Helens Town will be glad to get back to action this weekend when they take on bottom side Nelson at Ruskin Drive on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Last week saw two games postponed due to waterlogged pitches, at Prestwich Heys on Tuesday and AFC Blackpool on Saturday.

Town last met Nelson on December 2 when St Helens gained a 2-1 win, coming back from a goal behind to account for a lively Nelson side who belied their basement position.

St Helens are in good form at the moment but will still need to guard against complacency as they look to pull clear of the bottom of the table, seeking their first “double” of the season and only their third home win.

Last time out, Nelson beat AFC Blackpool 2-1, so trail Town by only six points and Town have played more games than any other team in the bottom half of the table, so a win is a must if St. Helens are to maintain a healthy gap between themselves and their fellow strugglers.

Saturday’s game is a reunion for players who served under popular former manager Jimmy McBride.

There has been huge interest in the fixture already and an event is to take place after the match in the Sticky Wicket, where past players will be congregating initially at 2pm.
