ST HELENS Sutton Athletics Club’s Darren Scott won the European M45 Masters 200m title in Aarhus, Denmark, earlier this week.

He defeated Spain’s Xavier Bosch Ortiz by one hundredth of a second with a time of 23.24 into a headwind.

Scott won his heat and semi-final with the fastest overall time, demonstrating his dominance of the event.

he is the reigning world V45 200m champion too.

In the final Northern Athletics League match of the season, St Helens Sutton narrowly missed out on promotion.

Due to holidays and injuries only 16 athletes represented the club, who missed out on the necessary placing by 52 points despite a number of athletes covering events they don’t usually compete in order to gain valuable points.

With the knowledge that some strong juniors will be coming through to the senior ranks next year, and that injured athletes will be able to get a strong winter behind them, team captain Chris Causer is determined that next year will see promotion back to Division Two.
