PRESCOT & Odyssey began their first season in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition with a trip to Old Xaverians CC, in a rematch of the playoff game which saw the latter promoted to the Liverpool Comp back in 2011.

Batting first P&O had a bit of a top order wobble with only Steve Danson (27) contributing a decent score as they struggled to a tricky 61-5 before Rob Magee (51) and Josh Sumner (69) rescued the innings with a partnership of 92, and along with some lower order runs allowed P&O to reach 210 all out. Ian Carroll taking 5-52.

Steady batting at the start of the innings by the Old Xavs openers provided them the base to build from, knowing that there was still plenty of time in the game due to the quick over rates from both sides.

The entrance of Ian Carroll to the crease proved to be the turning point as the Old Xavs skipper blazed the ball to all parts of the ground as he blasted 75 off 53 balls, and effectively ended the contest, with Old Xavs coming out on top by 6 wickets.

Jamie Doyle carried his bat for a well made 80*

P&O will learn from their first game, and will hope for a change of fortune as they entertain Liverpool CC at Burrows Lane this Saturday (29 April) with stumps pitched at 1:00pm

Saturday's matchball was sponsored by PDQ Airspares.
