RAINHILL confidently elected to bat at home to Leigh and at 116 for 1 looked to be in a commanding position. Kennedy (58) and McGladdery (43) laid the foundations for a huge score but Rainhill's mid order was then ripped out by Shallcross (5 for 30 off 11).

Four wickets fell for just 11runs but thanks to a defiant 42no from Qureshi, Rainhill got to 190 in 52 overs.

In response, Leigh's batting was ruthless.

The opening pair put on 175 before Reece (87) was caught by Edmundson. Zelem (98no) just missed out on his century as Leigh passed the target in 51overs for the loss of one wicket.

Rainhill seconds' bank holiday trip to their Colwyn Bay counterparts was going to be difficult but due to an accident on the A55 and most of the team arrived late.
