RAINFORD hit top gear on Saturday with a crushing 119 run win over Liverpool.

After being asked to bat they compiled a commanding 258 for 5 declared with all seven batsmen who reached the crease passing the twenty run mark.

Openers Matt Bailey (24) and Saad Khan (45) gave Rainford a good start with Mark Brook (22) continuing the good work before Joe Noctor (60) became the mainstay of the innings. Paul Farrar added 23 before Ben Hewitt (45 not out) and Dave Tully (27 not out) boosted the total enabling the declaration.

In reply Ollie Jump produced a match-winning spell of opening bowling to take 5 for 35 and with Andy Davies capturing 3 for 23 Liverpool were dismissed for 139.

Rainford 2nd XI won their third match in a row with a three wicket win at Highfield. Bowling first they dismissed the Wigan outfit for 75 with Andrew Harrison taking 4 for 28 and Stephen Birkett bagging 3 for 18.

Jack Hemingway (25) and Ollie Lawrenson (26) set them on their way and despite a late clatter of wickets Rainford reached their target for the loss of seven wickets.
