SAINTS have announced the departures of seven first team squad members – including Fiji international Waqa Blake.
The club had already paid tribute to Tommy Makinson, Lewis Dodd, Sam Royle and Sione Mata’utia with a guard of honour at the final home game of the season.
Now that Saints’ involvement in the 2024 Super League season is over, the club have added a further three names to the list of departures.
They include Ben Lane and McKenzie Buckley, but the most prominent is the former Parramatta NRL three-quarter Blake.
He was a late signing for the 2024 campaign, after Saints had left Will Hopoate’s number three jersey vacant for the off-season.
He arrived in January 2024, after spending the previous four and half seasons with the Parramatta Eels club.
The Fijian international has played at both centre and winger for the the red vee, making 24 appearances this season and scoring 11 tries, including a hat-trick away at Castleford.
However, the writing was on the wall for Blake after some high profile errors in his games at the back end of the season and he was dropped for the final three matches.
Konrad Hurrell is not on the departed list and last time questions were asked on his future coach Wellens was hopeful of retaining his services – but he was also awaiting meeting with a specialist after his neck injury.
