ALTHOUGH now free to play after serving a one-match suspension Saints hooker/half back Moses Mbye may still sit out the trip to Leigh on Friday night.
Coach Paul Wellens explained that the former NRL man had been “carrying niggles” prior to his suspension.
With Daryl Clark now fit again after his recovery from a broken foot, and with Jake Burns performing so well at nine, there is no urgency to field the player ahead of the play-offs.
But he will make that call in the next 24 hours when he selects a 21 for a keenly contested local derby against the side that inflicted a heavy defeat at the end of July.
Wellens said: “There's a chance Moses Mbye will return this week – he was obviously suspended last week, but he has been carrying a few niggles which we just need to get assessed.
“There's some decisions that I need to make in the coming 24 hours, but I can't see there being too much difference to the 21 I named last week.”
Wellens also gave a further update on the club’s current key absentee – second row Curtis Sironen.
And he was hopeful that the NRL packman, one of Saints’ better performers during an often troubled and injury-hit campaign, will remain on schedule for a return in time for the play-offs.
Wellens said: “Curtis has got a chance for the first round of the play-offs.
“He's with physios at the moment but we’re hoping that he'll be re-integrate with squad next week.
“So we're doing everything that we can in terms of getting him back in contention to play.
“As we know with those calf-type injuries - the very nature of those things can change very quickly.
“We'll be sensible with him but we are hoping that we can get him back in contention.”
After at one stage being without 10 first choice players, Saints have now got most of their troops back.
The returns of Morgan Knowles, Tommy Makinson, Sione Mata'utia, Matt Whitley, Alex Walmsley and Joe Batchelor have been followed in subsequent weeks by those of Jack Welsby.
And last week saw Daryl Clark, Mark Percival, Lewis Dodd and James Bell return to the fold.
Now only Sironen, plus season-ending casualties Jake Wingfield and Konrad Hurrell are currently sidelined with injury.
