SOURCES at Saints say the club have been in discussions with international wing Tommy Makinson for some time about his future at the club.

Makinson, 32, is one of a number of senior players due to be out of contract at the end of this season.

Talks are understood to be ongoing with some of those other players also.

The popular wingman has enjoyed 13 seasons at the club scoring 193 tries, 271 goals and a drop goal in 315 matches in the red vee.

Makinson has been an integral part of Saints’ glory years – with his early carries being a key facet of the way the side has been able to get on the front foot.

He is also a deadly finisher given half a chance, epitomised by his four tries in this year's Magic game against Huddersfield Giants.

Although he will be 33 before the end of this season, Makinson still has plenty of top level rugby league left in him.

Saints have three months to continue those talks before other clubs are permitted to speak with him.

RFL rules state that no other club can approach a contracted player until May 1.
