With no scheduled Cross Country Fixtures at the weekend, 13 St.Helens Sutton A.C members took part in The Striders 5 Mile Trail Race organised by St.Helens Striders.

Now in its Eighth Year, this popular Race once again was a sell out. Held at Sankey Valley Country Park the off road course has some sharp climbs and descents.

Sutton once again posted some excellent performances.

In the Men's race, Matt Crehan once again won the race in a time of 29:53 just over a minute behind was club mate Steve Anders joining Matt on the podium, recording a time of 30:56 taking a well deserved 2nd place.

Gabriel Mullen was next up in a time of 33:01 and finishing in 5th place. Michael Brussels posted a time of 34:18 in 11th place, closely followed by MV45 Chris Birkett in 34:24 12th place.

Chris finishing first in his age category and receiving an award. Fellow MV45 Martin Johnson recorded a time of 40:34 and finished in 50th place. MV 55 Greg Carns completing the men's turnout in 44:21 in 77th.

There was more success for the club in the Ladies section of the race.

Taylor Massey and Lily Birkett finishing an excellent 2nd and 3rd to take their places on the podium.

Taylor clocking a time of 36:48 and Lily posting 38:34. Siobhan Massey was next up for the Ladies in 58th position 31:07, followed by Sarah Birkett 42:02 63rd and Niamh Waring 50:46 120th.

The Ladies turnout rounded off with Nicola Sarbutts 54:17 for 148th place. 213 runners started.
