ENGLAND completed a 3-0 whitewash over Kristian Woolf’s Tonga with a 26-4 win in front of 15,477 at Headingley.
England were always on top and patiently built a first half lead after breaking the deadlock with a Ben Currie try on 13 minutes.
Normally a second row, but playing in the centres Currie polished off a midfield break, including some neat close-quarters offloading, before going on an arcing run to the line.
Harry Smith converted to make it 6-0.
Tonga had their time on the England line and were held just short in their best early raid of the game, but their game was again littered with too many handing errors.
England’s kicking game, both the kicks to the corners and the chips behind the line, caused problems.
And they doubled the lead when John Bateman’s offload to Harry Newman saw the centre flick on to Matty Ashton for a well-taken try on 26 minutes.
Man of the series Smith converted from touchline to make it 12-0.
When Latu Fainu was penalised for lifting in tackle 12 metre out, Smith slotted the penalty goal to make it 14-0.
Keon Koloamatangi and Saints Matty Lees were then yellow carded – with the Saints prop dispatched for hair tugging as he tried to regain his feet.
Elliott Whitehead marked his final England appearance when he finished off an move started with a sublime long pass from Jack Welsby.
Smith’s goal made it 20-0 and that was game over.
Saints centre Konrad Hurrell was yellow card for swinging arms into Tom Burgess a couple of times.
England added a bizarre try with Newman collecting a kick wide, before juggling and managed to get ball over the line, with the Tongan defender aiding his momentum.
Smith added the goal to make it 26-0, but the visitors had the last word on 67 minutes when Eliesa Katoa was too strong to hold so close to the line after good ball movement.
Whitehead was denied his second, being deemed to have fumbled it as the game petered out with no further score.
