SAINTS coach Paul Wellens gave an injury update on four players after today’s 32-16 win at Wakefield.

There was positive news from Jonny Lomax who passed his HIA after taking a knock making a tackle late in the game.

Prop Dan Norman left the field in a groggy condition very late in the game and he will be assessed.

Konrad Hurrell, in his first game back, went off with a calf strain midway through the first half.

Wellens also gave an update on Morgan Knowles, who did not play with a groin niggle.

On Hurrell Wellens said: “He got a bit of a calf strain and that is something he has had issues with in the past.

“We are not in the business – at this point of the season – of forcing players to stay out on the field and making a problem worse.

“We will get him assessed in the week and I will sit down with the medical staff to see where he is at with that one.”

He explained that Lomax is fine and sustained his knock just as he was preparing to bring him off anyway.

“Jonny had had a couple of niggles in the week and would have liked to have brought him off sooner as he is a very important player to us.

“Just as he was about to be brought off legitimately, he took a bit of a bang – but he has had a head assessment and is fine,” Wellens said.

On Norman Wellens said he needed to check with the club doctors with him coming in to speak with the press so close to the end of the game.

“Dan got up and did not look too good so I will need to speak to the doctors to check. But there are standard around head incidents but we need to sit down with the doctors to see if Dan is unavailable next week,” he said.

Knowles, who has been propping in Matty Lees’ absence, missed today’s game with a groin niggle meaning that James Bell continued at 13.

Wellens said: “Morgan has been carrying a bit of an issue for a number of weeks now.

“And it is a groin issue that is becoming a bit aggravated – but Morgs is an important player for us.

“He is someone who puts his hand up week in, week out and has been outstanding since he came back from suspension early on in the year so we are not going to take risks with him.

“We are hoping that he will be fit next week – but again we will need more information.”
