RAIN did not stop play as Town gained a 5-1 victory over a Lymm Rovers team in front of 172 rain soaked home fans.

Town got off the mark after five minutes with a well taken header from talisman Liam Diggle, all hail the King Dig.

The home side looked to be in control when against the run of play Lymm were awarded and dispatched a controversial penalty for handball against a confused Mike Newton.

This seemed to knock Town's confidence and Lymm would go close to taking a half time lead if not for the good work of youngster Kyle Rugg in the Town number 1 jersey.

Town came out reinvigorated for the second half however, attacking the Ruskin Drive end and were rewarded for some early pressure when Diggle's cross was met by a Kenny Dixon header to put Town in front.

Almost immediately, a Liam Beech finish from close range made it 3-1 before youngster Alfie Stott had statisticians scrambling for the Town record books to see if he was Town's youngest ever scorer with a close range header.

Josh Panther then came off the bench and rounded the keeper late on to make it 5 and put the result beyond doubt.

Town return to action this Saturday (12th August) at Ruskin against Hartford FC, 3PM kick off.
