RAINHILL pulled off one of the results of the weekend after condemning Love Lane Liverpool Competition leaders Leigh to a five wicket defeat.

Led by former Lancashire batter Karl Brown, who scored 87, Leigh declared on 228-8 off 53.5 overs with Paul Millar (4-32) and Pakistani all-rounder Khalid Usman (3-97) the pick of the bowlers. Usman then followed his mammoth 27 over spell by scoring an unbeaten 95, which along with Billy Godleman's 74, formed the backbone of a successful run chase.

Rainford picked up a second win of the season after seeing off Wigan at Bull Hey. Matthew Bailey (89) and Craig Woods (52) helped the visitors reach 238-8 off 55 overs before John Dotters (5-58) and Andrew Davies (3-58) combined to secure a 63 run victory.

St Helens Town remain winless and bottom of Division One after a narrow defeat to high-flying Liverpool. Sibusiso Maseko took 5-56 as Liverpool declared on 195-7 with Ryan Donnelly's 40 the top score as Town were bowled out 18 runs short of the target.

Newton le Willows top the table with Ben Walkden's 85 the highlight as they were bowled out for 165 by Spring View. Ahmad Safi Abdullah (6-35) and Jack Morley (3-2) ensured the visitors were dismissed for just 67.

Sutton are third in Division Two but they were lucky to leave Wavertree with a draw after Saeed Ullah made 137 out of the host's total of 252-7 declared. Stubborn resistance from Adam Onion, who made 54 from 106 balls, and the tail saw Sutton close on 151-9.
