Saints expect Ian Watson's Giants to be a tough opponents despite their start to the competition that has been as mixed as their own.

"Huddersfield have been a little bit like ourselves – a little bit inconsistent.

"But when they get it right it shows what a formidable team they are.

"They are a very hard working team that is prepared to do the tough stuff and for very long periods.

"We run into a few old friends in Kevin Naiqama and Theo Fages – and having worked with those guys I know the standards they set themselves and those around them.

"Huddersfield will be very motivated on Sunday and we will have to counter that," Wellens said.

Sunday's Saints v Huddersfield Magic game at Newcastle will kick off at 2.15pm.
