St Helens Town lost 5-4 at home to Liverpool Nalgo after being hit with a gut-wrenching late goal on Saturday.

With the Blues grabbing a last minute winner in their previous match, there was a feeling of optimism down at Ruskin.

Garswood Primary children proudly walked out with the team as matchday mascots, as Town continue their standards and commitment to the community.

The mascots seemed to bring Town some luck as inform forward Ryan ‘Cookie’ Cook grabbed the first goal after just four minutes.

Celebrations were cut short when Nalgo equalised just 9 minutes later.

No need to worry as Cookie netted again on the 18th minute to put the Blues back in front.

In the usual gut-wrenching moment of last minute despair, Nalgo equalised in additional time. The teams finished the first half 2-2.

The Garswood Primary children entertained us at halftime with a mini game of football. Congratulations to Charlie who won Player of the Match, and the match ball after netting a hat-trick.

Nalgo came out the better side as they pushed Town in search of a third goal. It eventually came on the 65th minute. Now with their tails up and Town struggling to get back into the game it only took another 4 minutes for Nalgo to find their fourth.

Earlier in the season this would have caused a complete collapse, but Town are made of sterner stuff nowadays and refused to give in.

Town found the back of the net on the 78th minute, all be it from an home goal.

Then on the 84th minute, Liam Diggle to the rescue. King Dig scored to make the game 4-4.

Alas, the gut-wrenching returned as Nalgo bagged the winner in 7th minute of added time to end the game 4-5.

Town are back in an action at Ruskin this Thursday evening, March 9th, 7:45pm kickoff.
