SAINTS prop Agnatius Paasi has been cleared for any wrongdoing in the tackle that has resulted in Penrith Panthers wing Taylan May being ruled out for the season.
Paasi was not penalised on the night for the tackle and the match review committees of both the NRL and Rugby Football League have studied it.
They have declared that the challenge, which started around May’s upper thigh but ended on his lower leg, was not careless.
The challenge does not match the criteria for a cannonball tackle as there was no forceful contact at or around the knee of the attacking player.
The panel also agreed that Paasi did not drop his weight onto the back of May’s lower legs was therefore not a hip drop tackle either.
