LSH travelled to neighbours Sefton as League leaders with the homesters languishing at the wrong end of the table, but, as it worked out, the result was up in the air until the very last quarter of the game.

Sefton opened the scoring and doubled their advantage with penalties on the 15th and 23 minute before LSH replied with a penalty from Matty Wood only for Sefton to reply with another to take the half time score to 9-3 for the West Liverpool outfit.

LSH started the second half with a lot more vigour, but again conceded a penalty to go further behind.

Now, LSH forwards joined the party, and took a foothold.

In the Sefton half and, from a scrum in the opposition 22, and a midfield drive, Wood switched the ball back inside to Matty Cunliffe, who crossed the line untouched to bring LSH back into the game with a converted try.

St Helens Star:

The rest of the game was a dour affair with the now worsening weather conditions seeming to favour the heavier Sefton pack. Then in the 65th minute, LSH forced a penalty out of the Sefton team and Wood converted to edge LSH into a one point lead, proving to be just enough to return to Moss Lane with the points. .

A win's a win, but the LSH boys know they must be better, to keep the challenge up for the league title.

Next Saturday (3 December) LSH are away at Southport
