It was another entertaining 2-2 draw at Barrows Farm on Saturday as Billinge came from two goals behind to claim a share of the spoils with Cheadle Heath Nomads Reserves.

On a blistering hot day this was a real game of two halves as the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead at the break.

St Helens Star:

It was fairly even until the half-hour mark when The Storks left Sam Deering unmarked allowing the player to slot home from close range.

The Nomads doubled their lead when Jordan Downing got in front of Olly Filson to powerfully head home from a corner just before had-time: it was tough on man-of-the-match Filson as he was excellent throughout filling in at centre-half.

St Helens Star:

A rousing half-time talk from the management team was needed as - apart from one Dylan Woodroffe effort that hit the side-netting - The Storks hadn't been at the races.

As it was, the talk worked and Billinge looked a different team as Woodroffe and Jack Sutton began to cause all sorts of problems for the Cheadle defence.

However, it was Billinge stalwart Richie Allen that halved the deficit.

Woodroffe did superb beating his man and laying the ball back to Allen who controlled the it and placed the ball through the despairing Nomads defence and into the back of the net.

St Helens Star:

Woodroffe then had two great chances; firstly bringing a great save out of Cheadle keeper Adam Rigby and then seeing his shot go just the wrong side of the post.

However, The Storks were on level terms moments later.

Ellis Morris picked up the ball on the right wing and put in a fantastic cross right into the path of Sutton who gleefully headed home.

There was still time for Billinge's Callum MacDonald to test Rigby from long range whilst Woodroffe lobbed Rigby from distance only to see the ball hit the top netting.

St Helens Star:

The game finished at 2-2 and manager Dave Morris was happy with his young charges saying: "We had a number of lads missing today and we had to play people in unfamiliar positions but I thought in the second period we were excellent and we could have snatched it at the end.

"The heat was intense and I have to congratulate the players of both sides for producing such an excellent game for the supporters."

The Storks are next in action on Tuesday when they entertain local rivals Golborne Sports in a 6.30pm kick-off before taking to the road next Saturday to face Denton Town.
