RAINHILL finally got off the mark with their first win at the seventh time of asking as they beat local rivals Newton le Willows in the Premier Division of the Love Lane Liverpool Cricket Competition Premier Division.

Batting first, only Ben Walkden (58), Rizwan Haider (31) and Dominic Chambers (18) reached double figures as the hosts crumbled to 138 all out with Imliwati Lemtur (5-31) and Peter Kelly (3-43) doing the damage. Tyler McGladdery (96no) and Richie Forsyth (28no) then ensured a much-needed nine wicket victory.

In Division One, Rainford lost ground on the leaders following a defeat to Highfield at Billinge Road. The hosts were dismissed for 197 after John Dotters (4-50) and Andrew Davies (3-21) applied the pressure but the target proved too much for the visitors who fell 48 runs short despite Jason Login's 64. 

Sutton are third in Division Two following a 79 run win at Alder. Skipper Joe Noctor hit 81 as the visitors reached 204 all out before Joe Smith (6-23) ran through the hosts to seal the victory.

David Gaskell struck 61 for St Helens Town as they decked on 206 for seven against Hightown St Mary's. Sharan Rajendran claimed four for 26 to help dismiss the hosts for 144.

In the Southport and District Premier League, Haydock's Karl Pennington took four for 37 as Goose Green were restricted to 148 for nine off thier 45 overs. Opener Owen Farnworth hit an unbeaten 36 as Haydock wrapped up a five wicket win. 

Prescot and Odyssey enjoyed a seven wicket win over Mossley Hill after Kurt Sabela (3-12) and Harry Rigby (3-10) dismissed the visitors for just 83. Sanjo Varghese 38 not out steered the hosts home.
