SAINTS coach Kristian Woolf says that the club will not go into the transfer market to plug the gap created by Lewis Dodd’s season ending Achilles injury.

This afternoon Saints went with veteran hooker James Roby at seven, partnering Jonny Lomax.

But Woolf went through the other options that the team has in the absence of their star scrum half.

Woolf said: “We won’t be going to the market.

“We will fill that from within, James Roby has a chance there – and I thought he was great tonight particularly in the second half when we earned the right to play a little bit more footy and settled into what we were doing set wise a little bit better.

“We had a bit of success on that left edge which all started with him. He’s a smart footy player and whatever position you put him in he can get the job done there.”

If that did happen, Saints are well blessed at nine having recruited Joey Lussick from the NRL in the off-season.

“Joey Lussick is a player who can play nine and some big minutes there and he was good enough to play 80 for us today after backing up from Good Friday,” he said.

There are other options that could involve both Jack Welsby and Will Hopoate – the latter who is currently sidelined with a minor leg injury.

Woolf added: “We have Will Hopoate who comes back in in a week or so and he is an international full back.

“It was only two years ago that he won games for Tonga against Australia at full back and has played well over 150 games in the NRL at full back. He is a class player and a versatile player and he is an option.”

If Hopoate went to full back, Welsby could jump in at 6 or 7 where he has had some success – most notably at last year’s Wembley when he changed the game when replacing the injured Theo Fages.

“Jack Welsby can play anywhere – him and Jonny Lomax have been outstanding for us last year and this year, whether six and six and six and one it doesn’t really matter they are two of the best attacking players in the competition and work really well.

“They enjoy playing together,” Woolf said.
