SAINTS coach Kristian Woolf is relishing his first ever Good Friday game in charge of the club – and says the sport’s oldest rivalry is about much more than two points.

The game could not be better poised with Saints and Wigan sat one and two on the table and due to meet in the Challenge Cup semi-final next month.

With the sold out signs going up ahead of the first home Good Friday match since 2018, the excitement is ripping through the camp.

Woolf said: “It is the type of game that the players get excited for and really want to be a part of.

“You can really feel that in training – a real excitement and a real intensity about everything that we are doing.

“They love these sorts of games – and like last week.

“It is not just about the two points, it is more about what the game is and the rivalry is. Wigan feel exactly the same way.

“It is the biggest derby in our game and the oldest and has a different meaning to it on Good Friday.

“It does have a bit more meaning and a lot more on the line.

“The two points is important – the fact that we are sitting one and two adds to the occasion and to the rivalry as well."

Saints will be looking to field a similar side to the one that triumphed in Catalans on Saturday, bar the suspended Curtis Sironen.

Woolf was keeping his cards close to his chest on whoever slots in there on the right edge for this blood and thunder encounter.

“We will be very similar to last week.

“Curtis Sironen won’t be in there and we will figure out what we do there on the right edge.

“Outside of that everyone else is available.

“There have not been too many weeks where we have been able to roll out the same 17, so being able to keep as much continuity as possible is going to be good for us,” he said.

Saints will have Jake Wingfield is fit and available after his head knock at Leeds.

"He has had no dramas since the game and has recovered really well and will come back into contention for the 17.

"He was really good against Leeds - all we need from him is a bit of a run of games.

"He is going to play some footy for us, if he does not play Friday he will play Monday," Woolf said.
