SAINTS coach Kristian Woolf gave an injury update on forwards Matty Lees and Morgan Knowles, who both sat out the trip to Cumbria on Saturday.

He explained that both packmen initially picked up their knocks in the recent Warrington game – and they were subsequently aggravated at Toulouse.

Woolf also explained that Regan Grace’s late departure in the Whitehaven Challenge Cup game was “precautionary” more than any injury concern.

On Grace, Woolf said: “It was more precautionary than anything else.

“He just tightened up a bit. – he hasn’t played this year and missed a fair chunk of the pre-season too.

“We were in a good position at that stage so we needed to make sure he was right for next week.”

Loose forward Knowles was taking out of the game to stop his shoulder injury turning into something worse.

“Morgan copped a bit of a knock on his shoulder against Warrington.

“He was right to play against Toulouse but it got a little bit worse and we thought it important not to keep pushing it through otherwise he would possibly face a long stint on the sidelines at some stage.

“He’ll be right for next week.”

Prop Lees suffered an ankle injury in the Warrington game – in an incident deemed dangerous contact.

Woolf explained: “Matty got an ankle injury against Warrington – Joe Philbin was charged with it after the that game.

“We put him in a position to play last week but he has aggravated it more at the weekend and was not able to play this week.

“He is not 100 per cent certain for next week but we will look after him and hopefully get him through for the game.”
