ST HELENS Town made the short trip to L17 home of South Liverpool FC in desperate need to stop the rot in what has been a harrowing season for the Blues.

Again, a much changed squad, which might go some way to explain Town’s lack of form, set out to face the Liverpudlian side under the lights for this Friday evening kick off.

Town started out the better side putting together some good passages of play.

However, on the 25th minute James Davies put South Liverpool ahead then two more goals in quick succession on the 29th and 32nd minute sealed Town’s fate by half time with the score at 3-0.

The second half did see Town’s veteran striker Liam Caddick find the back of the net on the 66th minute, but any hopes of a miracle on Jericho Lane were extinguished 10 minutes later when Craig Davis scored a fourth goal for the home side.

Town stay firmly rooted to the bottom of the North West Counties Division 1 North, 9 points behind AFC Darwen who also have two games in hand. With a goal difference of -71, it would appear only divine intervention could stop them finishing dead last.

Town will hope for some derby day luck as they face Pilkington for the “El Glassico” at Ruskin Drive, Saturday 3PM kick off.
