LITTLEBOROUGH kicked off this ADM Cup semi-final with the heavy rain almost horizontal, blowing straight into the faces of LSH, playing up the hill and against the wind.
And there the outcome of the game was to be determined. The elements determined that LSH needed to reach half time sufficiently in touch, to do the business in the second half. And that is exactly what happened.
Producing a truly magnificent display of close control rugby, remarkably in the dreadful conditions, with hardly a handling error on show, LSH’s pack dominated throughout. Moving the ball fluently from ruck after ruck, in both half’s, Littleborough had no answer.
They did however take full advantage, building a 13 point lead after eight minutes and adding another seven pointer later in the half. Crucially however two hard–worked tries from Connor Thompson and Dan Webster saw LSH reach half time just 10 points adrift at 20-10.
Although in full control, the next LSH score did not arrive until the hour mark, through Chris Hull.
Dan Webster then went over for his second score, from short range, after 68 minutes, with Matt Wood slotting the conversion to edge LSH ahead 20-22.
In a frantic finish, Rob Sexton settled matters when winning a long kick and chase before aquaplaning over for LSH’s fifth try.
This Saturday LSH are at home v Aldwinians. 2.15
