FORMER Parramatta hooker Joey Lussick could not have a better mentor than skipper James Roby to develop his game still further.

The NRL rake has already experienced Super League, even playing against Saints in the 2019 Grand Final and at Wembley in 2020.

Signed for the skillset he brings, the first of Lussick’s three year deal will see him play alongside Roby for the skipper’s final year gives.

And that gives him a glorious opportunity to learn from the master and add even more tricks to his trade with a view to stepping into his boots the following year.

Lussick said: “I could definitely have someone worse to be training with than James Roby. He has done it all in the game and is a man that leads by his actions, and I am really thankful to be able to share the training field with him.

“He is a bit of a freak to be able to do what he does at that level for so long.

“There are very few people in sport who can do what he can do. He has been doing it since he was 17 – things that I haven’t been able to see.

“He is very professional and works hard and is the captain of the club.

“But there are little things that seen, too, since arrived.

“He is a fit, hard-working trainer and works his backside off in training every day and that is exactly what he does in a game.”
