IN the first of what will be a series of retro Face in the Crowd features, here is a shot from Knowsley Road in the 1950s.
The image of smiling, scarf-wearing supporters illustrates the broad appeal of rugby league in its halcyon days.
Note the straw piled up against the wall, an old-school method of protecting the pitch from the frost in the depth of winter.
