ST HELENS long-distance runner Matt Crehan’s top form has earned him his first international call-up.

The 30-year-old, who in October completed back-to-back marathon successes in Manchester and Liverpool, will be debuting for England on 6 February at the Granollers Half Marathon just north of Barcelona.

Crehan is one of eight athletes chosen to compete for England Athletics in the event just north of Barcelona.

The team will be supported by Allison Benton (Team Leader) and Joanne Wilkinson (Team Coach).

Crehan, who has the Made to Run shop in St Helens, won the 2021 Manchester Marathon in 2:18:26 with a fine solo run.

That marathon time opens up doors for Crehan to enter elite international races with the goal of securing qualifying time for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

And beyond that there is burning ambition to follow in his mum’s footsteps and run an Olympic Marathon.

Crehan has a half marathon best of 65:28.
