IT took Eccleston judoka Lucy Renshall just five seconds to win the -63kg category final of the British Championships at the weekend.

The SKK club member, who turned 26 on the eve of the tournament, defeated Camberley’s Jessie Edwards to be crowned British champion.

In the rounds Renshall defeated Sofia Carbone and Olivia Spellman en route to the final in the tournament held in Sheffield.

The British title brings the curtain on a fantastic year for Renshall, who qualified for and competed in the Tokyo Olympic games in July.

After winning three Grand Slam golds and one silver in 2021, Renshall has shot up in judo’s world rankings which will stand her in good stead for future big events.

She tweeted: “What a year.. from my debut at the Olympic Games, to climbing the world ranking list to number four and getting to four Grand Slam finals.

“I am finishing the year British champion!

“Thank you for all the support all year!”
