ANOTHER day, and another shot from the Saints pictorial archives in our weekly #ThrowbackThursday feature.
This one is of the Saints 1991-92 team led by the enigmatic Kiwi coach Mike McClennan.
The team had beaten Wigan in the Lancashire Cup semi-final before going on to beat Rochdale Hornets in the final at Warrington's Wilderspool ground.
The Lancashire Cup was always the first knockout pot up for grabs in the rugby league season.
This was the last time Saints won it, with the following year's final between Saints and Wigan at Knowsley Road being the last one ever.
These days clubs only really have the Challenge Cup and Super League to play for, with the League Leaders Shield sadly never considered a trophy of value despite it recognising a top place finish.
Apart from the Lancashire Cup, (and Yorkshire Cup), the other competitions we have lost since the 80s and 90s are the BBC2 Floodlit Trophy, John Player and the Premiership. Older readers will remember the Lancashire League or the western Division Championship.
And there was a one season wonder of the Captain Morgan Trophy, but Saints failed to qualify.
