SAINTS will play Wigan at the 2022 Magic for the first time since 2012.
Only three members of the Saints team remain from the last time they met for this event with Jonny Lomax, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and James Roby playing that day at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium on May 2012.
It was a stormy one in which McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Gareth Hock went toe-to-toe.
Wigan’s Hock and Chris Tuson red carded along with Saints’ Shaun Magennis after a dust up at a second half scrum.
Tuson is pictured missing Magennis and landing a right-hander on his own captain Sean O'Loughlin.
Paul Wellens scored a landmark 200th try for his hometown team – but alas it was not a day for celebrating with Saints losing 16-42.
Saints: Wellens; Gardner, Shenton, Wheeler, Meli; Hohaia, Lomax; Perry, Roby, Laffranchi, Soliola, Flannery, Wilkin. Subs: Clough, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Puletua, Magennis.
Wigan: Tomkins; Charnley, Goulding, Carmont, Gelling; Finch, Leuluai; Dudson, McIlorum, Mossop, Hansen, Hock, O’Loughlin. Subs: Lima, Farrell, Tuson, Lauaki.
Saints played Wigan in the first three Magic weekends from 2007, two at Cardiff and one at Edinburgh.
After playing Hull KR at Murrayfield in 2010, Wigan were again the opposition at Cardiff in the opener in 2011 and for a final time in 2012.
Since then Saints have played Warrington, Huddersfield, Widnes, Hull FC, Castleford and Catalans at Magic
