West Park 13 Widnes 21.

An evenly fought contest in less than favourable weather conditions, turned eventually on the superior power of the visitors forward pack, their three tries all converted close to the Park line

Two early long range penalties, expertly converted by full back Littler saw the home side take an early lead, but on the stroke of half time the visitors scored a push over try which was converted to give them a one point lead.

The contest remained evenly balanced into the second half, until gaining possession from a 5 metre scrum Widnes forwards recycled the ball to add a further try which was duly converted.

Park got back within one point of the lead again as prop Berry picked up a loose ball from a ruck, and scampered over unopposed from the 22 metre line, a neat try that Littler converted.

Try as they might the home side's pressure was unable to yield further points despite some excellent efforts, notably from man of the match and captain Paddy Loughnane, but the visitors had the final say as their forwards once again powered over from close range, the try again being converted to leave Park without points that their valiant efforts deserved.

Next week West Park have a cup game at Aldwinians, followed on the 20 November with a league game at home against the same opposition, all games from now having a 2.15 pm kick off.
