ON day 4 of our Saints Advent we again dip into the picture archives and take a step back to November 1978.
The Saints side lines up ahead of the tour match against the Australians with a 16,352 crowd crammed into Knowsley Road.
The match programme detailed some outstanding past displays against the Kangaroos.
Alas, there would be no holding the Green and Gold machine who six days later won the deciding Ashes test at Leeds.
Saints, with two penalties from skipper Geoff Pimblett, held the Roos to 9-4 at the break.
But not even the torrential rain could stop the Aussies in the second half.
When Saints were frozen off for 11 weeks>
A week later the Aussies wrapped up the Ashes at Headingley, while a day later Saints lost 7-3 at Rochdale Hornets.
