BILLINGE athlete Harry Coppell will compete in the final of the Olympic pole vault in Tokyo later this morning (UK time).

The event is due to start at 11.20am (UK time) with the 25-year-old Wigan Harrier one of 14 finalists.

The former Chapel End pupil enjoyed first time clearances at 5.30m, 5.50m and 5.65m before failing at 5.75m.

Coppell is the current British record holder with a height of 5.85m - and ranked 22nd in the world at this event.
