SAINTS scrum half Theo Fages has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken shoulder injury sustained at Wembley.

Fages had gone into the game with an injury picked up in the Wigan – which needed a painkilling injection ahead of the Challenge Cup Final – and scored Saints’ opening try.

But Fages then picked up a more serious injury in the sixth minute – and has already undergone surgery to repair it.

Saints coach Kristian Woolf said: "Theo copped a minor knock early on in the game against Wigan but carried on playing.

"We gave him a rest with it against Wakefield and there were no dramas with him playing at Wembley.

"But he took a knock on it in the sixth minute and that was a more serious injury.

"I'd like to give Theo a big wrap here because it was a significant injury, picked up early in the half but he did not want to let the team down and continued to do his share with the ball and in defence.

"But it was obviously afecting his passing and tackling."

Fages has been Saints Grand Final winning number seven for the past two years, so losing him is a massive blow.

However, Woolf has faith in his replacement and the team to overcome this loss.

St Helens Star:

"Theo has been a key player for the past few years - and it is a big blow, but it does give Lewis Dodd an opportunity for the rest of the year.

"It is a good opportunity for Lewis to demonstrate what he can do and make the position his own for this year.

"Last year we lost Luke Thompson and Mark Percival and still found the players to fill the void, and we have every faith in Lewis Dodd stepping into this role," he said.
