CLOCK Face Miners started their NCL local league campaign, in their 100th year, with a 34-12 win against Saddleworth Rangers.

The game was initially a tight affair with neither team able to able to break down the solid defence.

So, when Clock were awarded a penalty on 15 minutes, they went for the two points, with Jack Highcock having no trouble kicking from in front of the sticks. Rangers took the same option when awarded a penalty 10 minutes later to level the score.

Clock eventually breached the Rangers line when Jordan Eccleston, on the last tackle, charged through the Rangers defence to score. Highcock slotted over the conversion to give Clock an 8-2 half time lead.

Clock came out flying in the second half and were 14-2 up within two minutes of the restart when Jimmy Jones latched on to a Tom Taylor pass to score with Highcock successful with the difficult conversion.

Within the next 10 minutes, Ryan O’Donnell scored twice under the posts with Highcock kicking both conversions.

The try of the match came on 60 minutes when Bryan Unsworth slipped through three tackles on halfway, passed to the supporting Lewis Geraghty who raced in under the sticks. Highcock was again successful with the kick.

Rangers scored two late conciliation tries but, Clock closed out the game with a Highcock penalty.
