THIS week's announcement that Saints will be playing Catalans Dragons at the 2021 Dacia Magic Weekend at Newcastle United's St James's Park gives us the excuse to dig out the gallery of one of the club's most memorable days on the Tyne.

Back in May 2017 new coach Justin Holbrook had slipped into the hot-seat after a turbulent couple of months.

It was literally like Magic....suddenly there was talk of Ben Barba in the crowd about to sign and on the field the players expressed themselves with confidence.

They defeated Hull FC 45-0 in front of a 38,881 crowd with the highlight being the long range effort from Tommy Makinson.

Further scores came from Regan Grace, 2, Ryan Morgan, Alex Walmsley, 2, Morgan Knowles and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.

It went a long way to give Saints a bounce into the rest of the year as they climbed up the table.

It also expunged from the memory the Tyneside trip from the previous year in which Saints suffered a 48-20 reverse.

Apart from that mishap, St James's Park has been a happy one for Saints - with 2015 seeing a 20-16 win over Warrington and in 2018 Saints defeated neighbours Widnes Vikings 38-18.
