THE Merseyside Schools Rugby Union team has always had plenty of players who doubled up in the 13-man code.

And this shot from an early 80s game against Cheshire at Rainhill features a man who has made his name in both codes as a player and then coach.

In the background is Darren Harris, who went on to play for Thatto Heath and Warrington.

The Merseyside fly-half pictured kicking the goal was an interesting selection as he is from the other side of the border. A cracking player, who could kick goals from half-way.

Of course it is Shaun Edwards, who skippered England schools at both codes and in league would win nine Challenge Cups with Wigan.

Notice the old dry ski slope in the background next to the railway line!
