LAST week's flashback to Cowley's 2001 first XV team shot certainly stirred a few readers memories - and there was no shortage of players and their families submitting names.

Cowley High School had for a long time been eminent in the world of school rugby - and their Hall of Fame is testimony to that.

And this particular crop was no exception - featuring as it does a couple of players who went on to sign up at Saints.

Mark Ashton, who would go on to play for Swinton and Pilkington Recs, got in touch to explain the reason for this grouping.

He said: "We had just returned from touring New Zealand, winning four out of five games. That team was Lancashire Cup winners and had been Northern State schools champions the season before."

The group, plus a few of the older lads who had left, is hoping to have a 20 year reunion for New Zealand tour party this year.
