IT is just over 13 years since Saints played their last game at Knowsley Road – the side's last hurrah before the demolition men moved in.

As farewells go, the last game at Knowsley Road went to perfection with a big crowd filling all four sides of the 120-year-old stadium.

In fact the old girl kept them waiting one last time, with kick off delayed by 10 minutes to allow 13,510 fans to fill every nook and cranny.

The fans turned up with home made banners, many wishing skipper Keiron Cunningham a fond farewell - and the veteran rake responded by scoring the final try in a game in which Saints booked their Grand Final place with a 42-22 victory.

St Helens Star:

The noise was constant throughout and the Popular Side went through its full catalogue of songs, even some spanning back to the 1970s.

It helped that the game was in the melting pot for an hour, with the fans in the old ground having to be 18th man when the Giants began to get on top.

Once Saints pulled clear the tunes became more celebratory in tone and content.

Fittingly the last song before the countdown was the timeless Oh When the Saints go Marching in, which has transcended the generations.

Long after the final hooter, fans remained, taking one last glimpse of the surroundings and plenty of photographs.

Memories and memorabilia that those fans continue to cherish and hold dear.
