EVAN Gumbs is likely to miss the early part of Warrington Town’s season.

The defender, who has joined the club permanently after three separate loan spells from Tranmere Rovers, was forced off during Saturday’s pre-season friendly against AFC Fylde with a hamstring injury.

As a result, he looks set to miss several weeks but manager Paul Carden has backed him to bounce back.

“Evan came off with a hamstring and I’m gutted for him,” the Town boss said.

“He was looking really strong but knowing the type of character he is, he will come back.

“He’s going to have these type of setbacks and that’s one of the reasons why we’ve gone with an extra centre-back.

“Robbo (Mark Roberts) came in with Reegs (Matt Regan), who I thought was superb on Saturday.”

Carden also gave updates on two more defenders who are injury doubts for Saturday’s trip to Basford United – the opening game of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division season.

“Callum Grogan missed Saturday with a slight thigh problem but he should be okay,” he said.

“Mitch Duggan has had a bit of a knock so he’ll be touch and go.”
