A YOUNGSTER is being applauded for the skills he showed in landing a fish that won him a recent match.
William Hilditch came out on top in a 'Best of Britsh Baits' women's and juniors' match staged by Newton-le-Willows Anglers Association at Whitedoor Dam.
Without landing the double-figure common carp he would not have figured in the top three.
But a club official said: "Well done to everyone as there were some good mixed nets, top honours go to William who played and landed a 13lb 4oz common carp all on his own."
That carp took William's total to 16lbs 8ozs 0drs, almost 10lbs clear of second placed Izzy Gibbins.
