IN what looks to be their final game of the season, Knutsford Hockey Club women’s firsts signed off in style.
Neston’s thirds were thrashed 5-1 at Knutsford Leisure Centre as Knutsford stayed fourth in the Cheshire Women’s Hockey League Division Two table.
Suzi Weir opened Knutsford’s account with a direct strike following a short corner, but the visitors levelled almost immediately through a well-worked short corner of their own.
Both sides then struggled to break down the opposite defence until just before half time, when Sarah Fielding threaded the perfect pass for Gill Lunt to finish coolly.
That proved the catalyst for Knutsford to take control and just after the break, Lunt turned provider as she held off a defender before unselfishly squaring the ball for Jess Flack to finish.
The home side maintained their pressure and put the game beyond Neston when Faye Webber’s mazy run led to her cutting back for Weir to double her account.
The short corner proved the best route for Knutsford once again as Weir completed her hat-trick to round off the scoring.
