WARRINGTON Town’s match at Buxton last night failed to reach half time – and manager Paul Carden says there is an argument to say it should never have started.

Heavy snow in the Peak District forced the abandonment of Tuesday’s league fixture after 33 minutes.

Frustratingly for Yellows, they were leading 1-0 through debutant Fisayo Adarabioyo’s goal when referee Jonathan Maskrey called a halt to proceedings.

The pitch at Silverlands is an artificial surface but with snow blanketing the pitch, the markings became invisible.

Warrington Guardian:

“I’d say there’s an argument that we shouldn’t have been brought over knowing the weather forecast,” Carden said.

“It’s one of those things – it’s just unfortunate.

“You’re always going to be disappointed when you’re leading and the match gets abandoned.

“The referee and the officials couldn’t see the ball at times moving across the line, the linesman couldn’t see players moving in terms of offside decisions.

“Once they came up with the shout that they couldn’t brush the pitch, which I’ve never heard of in my life, the ref’s made the decision.

“Fair play to the ref – he’s actually made the decision himself rather than ask every man and his dog what he should do.

“It adds a game onto an already busy schedule but it will give us extra time to get the likes of Josh Amis and Scott Brown ready.

“Having said that, even in the conditions I felt we scored a good goal.

“We had another great chance to score again but I think the conditions played a part with that.

“It’s disappointing, but you can’t control the weather.”
