SAINTS have been scarred by some previous World Club Challenge defeats - but last night's won't be one of them.
The try scored by prop forward Luke Thompson gave Saints the best possible start and set the tone for a pulsating game.
The fifth minute try came when fit-again skipper went on the short side from dummy half before sending scrum half Theo Fages on a diagonal run back inside.
The Frenchman committed two defenders before popping a left-handed pass for the supporting Thompson - who rode the tackle and reached out for the try.
Although Sydney Roosters came back to win 20-12, the Saints did themselves more justice than their previous three encounters against the Tricolours.
