THERE were some strong performances from the St Helens Sutton team in the North West Sportshall League with Lewis Dunn scoring key points in the speed jump and shot-put.

Sportshall Athletics is an indoor form of track and field which Sutton’s younger athletes compete in alongside over a 1 million other children around the UK aiming for the Sportshall Championships which will be held in 2020.

Sunday also saw a couple St Helens Sutton athletes take part in the Sale Harriers Indoor match, with Chloe-Leigh Mark taking part in her first U15 competition, having moved up age group, over 600m on the banked 200m track, finishing a fantastic 4th place in 1:59.53.

Karen Marsh also took part in both the 60m and 60m Hurdles running 10.10 and 11.71.

Saturday night also saw Charlie Roberts and Matt Crehan take on what was more of an ice ring than a 1.2km road circuit at the Podium 5km.

Earlier in the day the track had seemed fine but by the time of the race at 7pm, the course had frozen over and many athletes were unsure of racing.

Matt Crehan just unable to get enough traction in the final straight finished second in 14:53, while Charlie Roberts secured a big PB with 15:28, both times easily worth a good 20 seconds faster without the icy conditions.
