LIVERPOOL St Helens followed up last week’s cup win over Ormskirk with another impressive display to secure a bonus point 22-14 win in the ADM Premier League.

Once again they had the majority of possession and territory, although on this occasion they were the recipients of two pieces of good fortune to help them on their way.

Both came either side of half time after Matt Johnston had given LSH a second minute lead with a try following a superb move involving Jamie Morris, Alex McClurg and Rob Bacon to make it 5-0.

With 30 minutes gone and with LSH hunting for a second try a complete mix up in the Ormskirk defence and a lucky bounce of the ball saw young prop Tom Metcalfe gratefully dive over for the score, converted by Morris, 12-0.

LSH went further ahead when fly half Rob Sexton, becoming increasingly influential at the Lane, charged down a kick deep in his own half, gathered the ball and sprinted 80 yards to put LSH 17-0 in front after 59 minutes.

The final quarter was however, no easy run in for the Moss Laners as they were reduced to 14, then 13 and then 12 men with three yellow cards in the next eight minutes.

A rejuvenated opposition took full advantage with two converted tries in the 66th and 75th minutes (17-14) before the home side reasserted when back to full strength, with an excellent try from winger Josh Lynch after an assist from Sean Richardson.

On Saturday LSH host Fleetwood at Moss Lane 2.15.
