LIVERPOOL St Helens took full advantage of the conditions to run in eleven all run-in tries, all from the backs, to win 69-22 at Wigan.

Somehow making light of the continued failures at the lineout they ran the Wigan outfit ragged with an excellent display of open rugby. The youthful back row, with the two Connors martialled by the very capable Dan Webster, once again ensured that sufficient possession was available for the backs to do their job.

All of this seemed highly unlikely however, after Wigan had opened the scoring after twelve minutes, followed by their second try on the half hour mark. By then LSH had run in three of their own through centre Liam Forsyth (2) and one from winger Sam Walker to make the score 10-17 and the game seemed in the balance. Two minutes later Forsyth notched LSH’s bonus point try with another mazy run, gliding past a seemingly static Wigan defence to complete his hat-trick. From that moment the Moss Laners dominated the game with stand-off Alex McClurg adding another before the break to make it 10-31.

The second half belonged to skipper Darren Wilson who outpaced, outfoxed and dazzled the Wigan defence on four occasions, running in four solo tries, from varying distances, to extend his side’s scoreline sufficiently to put them top of the ADM Premier League on points difference. (It’s very early days!). Darren’s excellent contribution was interspersed by good second tries on the day from the hard working McClurg and the promising Walker. Matt Johnston’s seven conversions and two late scores from the home side ended a busy day for the scoreboard man.

This Saturday LSH are at home to Ormskirk 3pm.
